What to do if you can't find your .eco profile activation email or need to resend it

Once you've registered a .eco domain, you'll need to set up a .eco profile before you can start using your new domain.

You should receive an activation email from activate@profiles.eco with the subject line Activate [yourdomain].eco.

This email should is sent to the email address you used to register your .eco domain. If you are using domain privacy, the email will be sent to the privacy email address that your domain registrar creates for you. The email contains a unique link for you to configure your .eco profile.

If you can't find this email, you can have it resent using the 'Resend activation email' tool. On this page, you can enter the .eco domain name you're trying to activate. The activation email will be sent to the email address associated with the domain name.

Frequently asked questions

When will I receive my .eco activation email?

Normally you should receive the activation email immediately after buying your .eco domain; however, in certain circumstances (especially if domain privacy services are enabled), it could take 2 hours or more for the email to arrive.

If you don't receive the email within 2 hours, please try using the 'Lost activation email' feature. If that doesn't work, please contact us by chat (click the button in the bottom right of this page) or email (support@go.eco) and we will help get the email to you.

Why am I not receiving my activation email?

If you've tried resending the activation email for your .eco domain and still haven't received it, here are a few tips:

  1. Check you spam folder. Despite our best efforts, the activation email can end up in your spam folder. Have a look there.

  2. Confirm that you have access to the email address associated with your registration. Domain privacy services are offered automatically or as an option at many of our registrars. These services anonymize the contact details you provided when you registered the domain name. When we resend the activation email, we use this anonymized privacy address (it's the only one we know!). These services should forward to your email address, but you'll want to check your account at your registrar. You can also send yourself a test email to this privacy address and verify that you receive it.

  3. Temporarily disable domain privacy at your registrar. Sometimes there can be an issue at your registrar with the service that forwards emails from your privacy alias to your actual email address. It means we're delivering the activation email, but it's not reaching you. You can resolve this by temporarily disabling the WHOIS privacy setting on your domain at your registrar. This will update the contact information we have and we will automatically resend the activation email for your domain. Once you've received the activation email, you can re-enable WHOIS privacy at your registrar.

Why am I not receiving my activation email (and I bought my domain from GoDaddy, Dynadot, rebel.com or name.com)?

Some registrars do not automatically forward emails sent to their privacy email address on to you. It requires manual intervention by us or the registrar to get the emails delivered to you. We endeavour to do this as quickly as possible, but it's not always feasible - especially outside of our core business hours.

It's also possible that the forwarded email from the registrar privacy service is being flagged as spam and blocked by your email provider. One way to check this is to send yourself an email at the privacy email address associated with your account.

If you bought your domain at GoDaddy, Dynadot, rebel.com or name.com, to expedite the delivery of your activation email, we recommend temporarily disabling domain privacy. This will automatically send the email to you directly. Once you have received the activation email, you can re-enable domain privacy if you choose. Note: we will not expose your contact information in the .eco whois, even when domain privacy is disabled.

Here are some instructions on how to disable domain privacy:

Is it safe to disable domain privacy for my domain? Will my contact details be publicly exposed?

Temporarily disabling domain privacy for your .eco domain in this circumstance is safe. There are several reasons why this is so:

  1. Your .eco domain name is not yet published in the .eco root zone. It is not publicly accessible or discoverable. In other words, no one knows about the domain registration other than you, your registrar and the .eco registry.

  2. You should only need to leave domain privacy disabled for about 5 minutes. That should be sufficient for us to receive your contact details from the registrar and to send you the activation email directly. As soon as you receive the email you can re-enable domain privacy.

  3. Even with domain privacy disabled, we redact any contact information in .eco WHOIS (WHOIS is the service that can be used to look up the ownership of a domain). The details will be exposed in your registrar's WHOIS, but that would depend on someone looking up the details for your domain at your registrar in the 5 minutes that WHOIS is disabled.
