.eco has a dedicated OT&E environment that you can use to test your integration with the .eco registry system. The OT&E environment is designed to function similarly to the .eco production environment.

  • Domains will have serverHold status applied by default.

  • Many premium domains are available with prices that reflect their price in production.

  • A .eco profile activation email will be sent to the registrant contact whenever a domain is registered in the environment. There is test version of the .eco profile system that you can use to review and test the .eco profile activation process.

  • If you are participating in promotions, many of the promos are also set up in the OT&E environment so you can validate promo pricing.

  • MFA is required for all portal user accounts.

After signing the RRA and as part of the onboarding process, we will set up accounts to grant you access to the .eco environment. If you would like to test domain transfers, we can set up an additional registrar account for you to transfer domains between.

Registering domains in OT&E

You are welcome to register as many domains as you need in the .eco OT&E environment. You are also welcome to run automated test suites and scripts against this environment to ensure that your integration continues to work.

Please note that a .eco activation email is sent to the registrant contact every time a .eco domain is registered in this environment. There are subsequent activation reminder emails sent as well. As a result, please:

  1. Ensure that a valid email is associated with the registrant contact. Using invalid email addresses causes bounces that hurt our email delivery reputation.

  2. Ensure that the registrant email goes to an address that you control. Please do not send the activation email to addresses that you cannot access. This will cause confusion and lead to spam complaints.

If you don't want to test the profile activation process, please prefix the domain that you register with the string test- (eg. test-mydomain-20260101.eco). The environment will suppress sending activation emails to .eco domains with that prefix. Please note that the domain will still be registered with the serverHold status applied.

Accessing OT&E via EPP

EPP access to the OT&E environment is restricted by an IP allowlist. IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and CIDR blocks are supported. You can update and manage the IP allow list on your registrar configuration page. Please note that this is a separate allow list from the production environment. After updating the allow list, it can take up to 15 minutes for the firewall to be updated.
