This information is for domain registrars (retailers). If you have registered a .eco domain and are looking for more information on removing the serverHold status from your domain, please see this article: Why is my .eco domain name on serverHold?.
All .eco domains start out with serverHold status applied. As part of the eligibility criteria for .eco, registrants need to activate their .eco profile before they can start using their domain. Once their .eco profile is activated, serverHold status will automatically be removed from their domain.
Parsing poll queue messages to keep in sync with the registry
If you would like to know when serverHold has been removed from a domain, the registry system automatically adds a service message to your poll queue to let you know that the domain has been updated by the registry. The service message will have the format:
The domain [--domain name--] has been updated on your behalf by the registry.
Parsing this message from the poll queue is a good trigger to refresh your copy of the domain record (eg. by running a domain:info command) to ensure that your system's copy of the domain record matches what is held in the registry.
We recommend doing this as it can be confusing for registrants to see the serverHold status still applied in the registrar system or in registrar WHOIS after they have activated their .eco profile.
If you have any questions about this, please let us know at registrars@bigroom.eco.
